Train to become a Snowsports Instructor in Queenstown by enrolling in our 4-day (2 weekends) WHS Rookie Instructor Training Programme. Exclusively for Wakatipu High School students, It will challenge you to really elevate your skiing or riding. You’ll train towards your NZSIA Level 1 Ski or Snowboard qualifications in preparation for becoming a professional Snowsports instructor.

Dates and Time: 

Training will be from 9 am – 3.30 pm on each day of the programme with a break for lunch.

  • Saturday June 25
  • Sunday June 26
  • Saturday July 2
  • Sunday July 3

Venue: Dual mountain programme, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables

Trainers: NZSki Performance Academy trainers who are also NZSIA Examiners

Interviews: Will be held after the 4-day instructor preparation programme.

Work: Over the July holidays if participants have performed well we will provide an opportunity to interview and onboard with NZSki on July 9 to work and assist our Snowsports team over the busy holidays and potentially weekends after they have completed the NZSIA level 1 exam.

After the July School holidays:

Students will progress onto the 5-day Level 1 NZSIA certification course which is specifically held across 3 weekends starting July 30 - August 14 for Wakatipu High School students. This is a separate certification course run by NZ Snowsports Instructors Alliance. If successful participants gain a national level one ski or snowboard instructor qualification, qualifying for NZQA credits.

Cancellations/Injury/Days Missed:

  • Any cancellations must be received 2 weeks prior to the WHS Rookie programme start date to access a full refund.
  • If a programme cancellation request is received within 2 weeks of the programme start date, a non-refundable credit will be applied.
  • For any days of training missed due to sickness or injury or other reasons, no refunds or credit will be applied.
  • In the situation of serious injury where the participant is not able to continue on the remainder of the instructor training programme, a non-refundable credit may apply if full medical evidence is supplied.
